FINALLY! The moment we've been waiting for has finally arrived, after waiting only 146 days!
Red laid an egg! Well, we think it was Red - Mike insists it was Red, as he's been stalking her for the past few days, reporting that she's been hanging out in the nest box and squatting.
Red was rewarded with 2 red cherry tomatoes for her good deed. (And then stole a HUGE red one later on while we weren't looking....grrr.)
We let the boys 'discover' this egg after school. Here's a quick video of the blessed event:
We just aren't getting many red tomatoes this year. The Sungolds are plentiful, and we finally got a ripe Green Zebra. Pretty funky looking tomato - no idea how it'll taste! I'm also extra proud of our red cherry tomatoes and yellow pear tomatoes as they were grown from seed...first time I've done that, and we were successful!
While these do nothing for sustainability, they're good for my soul. I love the colors in my garden.
